The Story Behind the Vault

Our building started life in 1906 as the Skagit County Savings Bank — one of the first brick commercial buildings in La Conner. The original vault door still swings on its hinges (albeit more slowly these days), and the marble counters that once held ledgers now display artisan dog treats.

When we moved in, we kept every historic detail we could: the pressed-tin ceiling tiles, the beveled glass transom windows, and the terrazzo floors worn smooth by a century of footsteps. Now they're worn smooth by paws instead.

La Conner has always been a town that celebrates the eccentric, the handmade, and the deeply local. We built this store to match.

We drove forty minutes just to see the vault. Stayed two hours because the dog refused to leave the treat bar.
